You can always tell when the residential real estate market in trending downward - more residential real estate agents try their hand at selling small businesses to offset their decrease in home sales. I have nothing against residential real estate agents selling small businesses, but I really wish they would get some training in doing so before they take on assignments from business owners and business buyers.
I have been getting many complaints lately from business buyers, and
business brokers who let me know several incidents of unprofessional practice behavior and just plain ignorance on the part of the agent when assisting in the sale of these small businesses. About 4 months from now there will be many more law suits filed for this unprofessional behavior, I know it.
With more
individuals buying and starting up small businesses it is so important for agents to get the training they need to keep up in this demanding and complicated process of selling a business correctly and professionally.
Hopefully the state real estate departments will realize that for agents to sell small businesses they should have more education in this area of specialty.
