Residential Real Estate Agents Selling Businesses

Today a realtor sent me an email regarding a client of his that was interested in one of my listings. I wrote back that if he was a realtor I would be happy to pay him a referal fee if he wanted to pass his clients on to me. If he was a broker I told him to fill out my co-broker agreement and fax it back to me with a sign NDA from his client.
He sent me a slightly nasty email saying that he had no intention of passing the clients to me and if I don't co-operate he would be interested. I responsed with the following: You don't have to be offended, I have a real-estate license but I don't sell peoples homes just because I have a relationship with them. That would be a disservice to them because it's not my area of expertise and selling business is trickier than buying a home. You should rethink your attitude or become a business broker. Thank you! Comments & Advice From Peter:This has always been an issue in the business brokerage industry. Many residential real estate agents don't realize/understand the nuances of selling a business and they can really blow a deal because of their lack of knowledge. That is probably why 60%+ of all business brokers and agents don't cooperate with other agents - there is too much liability when working with another agent who doesn't understand the process of selling or buying a business.• Technorati • del.icio.us • Digg It • Furl • ma.gnolia • Spurl • Yahoo MyWeb
