Continuing on our theme of how to not make your business broker's eyes roll!
Here's tip #1 on talking to a business broker: Focus Your Interests
If your inquiry is too broad you will come across as being unfocused, unprepared, and wishy-washy. Translation, "This guy is a long way from pulling the trigger.
Ask yourself these questions to focus your search criteria.
Does the business look exciting and interesting to me?
Do I feel that I can improve the business?
Would the business offer me "pride of ownership"?
Would I feel comfortable operating the business?
A business in which you have some knowledge or transferable related experience would increase the likelihood of obtaining financing. Take it a step further and be prepared to
articulate your areas of expertise and how you would apply it to make a particular business of interest perform well.
