The
Small Biz Trends blog has a post about how a study done by Staples. They surveyed US small businesses with under 20 employees. What they found is that small business owners keep odd work hours. Most work long hours, including on days off, holidays, after hours and at night. Almost half work while they drive and during family time.
Here is a quote from the comments of the blog written by a small business owner:
"Now that I own a small business, I find that I work harder and longer than I ever imagined! ... To keep business, I feel like I need to return e-mails promplty and have a quick turnaround on products. Work ends up creeping into every aspect of life. "You might look at this and wonder why people do it or think they must be crazy. Or, you might find yourself relating to this comment. I've noticed that people love being self employed and don't look at it as work. In fact, they can't imagine doing anything else. That's why even after some have made plenty of money, they keep putting in long hours. It's a lifestyle as much as a business. What their family thinks about that is another matter!
