Received a call from a owner/seller who told me about a real estate agent who is now in a lot of trouble because they decided to put the name of his store in an ad online without his permission.
The ad for the business for sale comes up first from this online business for sale website on Google when someone searches on the name of his store. The ad's online information is outranking his own website! Now his customers think he has sold the store or is going through some transition & possible hurting sales of his business.
He's upset because when potential clients now look his store up on the internet (by key word search) it displays this business for sale ad instead of his businesses website. I let him know that it wasn't Googles fault and that he should call the online business for sale site and have the business name taken out of any past online ads & eliminating this problem in future Google (and other search engine) updates.
Sellers should make sure for confidentiality reasons and the reasons stated above that all advertising both in print and online should be approved before being placed. Many inexperienced real estate agents (who sell businesses) will put the name of the business in advertising & like they do with the address of a piece of real estate for sale - not thinking of the possible damage it may cause.•
